:. Zaranyzerak Gametrailers Blog about the BioShock PS3 Demo
On October 7, 2008 I posted the following blog entry on gametrailers.com in response to the outcry from PS3 owners regarding several apparent graphical errors in the PS3 Demo of BioShock. I had been frequenting the 2K Forums at the time, looking for any info on the subject. While the developers were curiously silent about the issues, it was made clear that they were being worked on. Here's what I wrote at the time:

Bioshock PS3 Graphics messed up??? OMGWTFBBQ!!!

Okay, by now you've all heard the big stink everyone's making about the graphics supposedly being crap in the new PS3 demo of Bioshock.

Well let's look at some facts, shall we?

1. It's a DEMO. Demos are usually made from earlier builds of a game, and are bound to have a few glitches.

2. It's a DEMO. It's already been confirmed that the PS3 demo is from an ALPHA build of the game. ALPHA folks. It comes before BETA. Meaning, it's gonna have some glitches.

3. It's a DEMO. I've played it through a few times and only found ONE case where the graphics were screwed up - the now infamous Big Daddy corpse near the end of the demo. The textures on this ONE object are blocky, and you can walk through it as if it doesn't exist. Though, you can still whack it with your wrench. so it does exist. But you can walk through it, so it doesn't REALLY exist...oh, whatever.

4. It's a DEMO.

The point is...IT'S A DEMO!!!!!!! Heard the old expression about making a mountain out of a molehill? Well, you're all LIVIN' IT, baby!

Seriously, calm down people. It SHOULD be fixed in the final release version. If it isn't, THEN freak out. You're freaking out over a freaking DEMO, ya freaks! Get a clue! And honestly, that was the ONLY glitch I found in the whole damn thing. Not bad for an ALPHA Demo.

So chillax, enjoy the demo, wait for the 21st, and if you're REALLY worried about it wait for some reviews and user confirmations that the problems are fixed in the final version before plunking down your cash. The world isn't going to end if you don't get it on release day. We already had to wait a year to get our hands on this for the PS3 ANYWAY, so a few more days to read if the problems are fixed isn't gonna kill ya!

So. What GOOD came of the demo? Well, for starters it let us PLAY a nice little chunk of this amazing game on our PS3's! And other than that stinkin' Big Daddy corpse that everyone's all bent out of shape over, the REST of it looked AMAZING! Plus we're apparently getting some cool DLC on the PS3 version that the other versions don't have.

In short, RELAX! It's a DEMO!

The response to the blog was quite favorable, with plenty of thumbs up ratings and a few comments. As it turned out, the graphics gtliches DID make it into the final product, alas, but a patch was released on November 22, 2008 (a little over a month after the game's release) that fixed ALL the bugs.

So it was basically a whole lot of piss and vinegar that, in the end, didn't matter. You know, like most of the bitching and moaning that occurs in the gaming world?
